Nana Addo Appoints His Cousin Ofori-Atta As Caretaker Of Trade Ministry

President Nana Akufo-Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister, as caretaker minister of Trade and Industry.

Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, the substantive minister, resigned as a result of this.

On Thursday, January 5, 2023, Mr. Kyerematen tendered his resignation to the President.

Mr. Ofori-Atta will be in charge until a substantive minister is appointed.

On Friday, January 6, 2023, this was announced in a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the President's Office.

"The President has asked the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, to serve as caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry until a substantive appointment is made," the statement said.

Alan Kyerematen resigned from the Ministry for unknown reasons, but many believe it is to allow him to focus on his campaign to be the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Flagbearer in the 2024 general elections.

Alan Kyeremanten was one of the longest-serving Ministers in Akufo-administration, Addo's leading the Ministry from 2017 until his resignation.

He had also served in the same position under President John Agyekum Kufuor between 2003 and 2007.
