Newcastle's Stance On Signing Cristiano Ronaldo

Newcastle United have informed Cristiano Ronaldo's camp that they will not be making him an offer following his departure from Manchester United.

The Red Devils confirmed on Tuesday evening that they had agreed to part ways with the Portuguese superstar effective immediately, making him a free agent.

However, one place he will not be heading to is St James' Park, as 90min understands Newcastle have ruled out a move for him.

Ronaldo's representatives approached Newcastle in the last few days to see whether they would be open to any potential deal in the event that he left United, but they made it clear to him that they are not going to offer him a deal.

The Magpies do intend to strengthen their forward options in the January transfer window, but Ronaldo does not fit in with their plans.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe recently spoke of his desire to bring in younger players and was quizzed on the possibility of signing Ronaldo last month.

"We’re trying to provide long-term growth, we’ve got a longer-term vision," Howe said when asked about Ronaldo. "At the moment, we have quite an ageing squad, so we probably need to invest in more young players. That’s probably a big part of our progression, really.

"We need to get the average age down, so it might not be a signing that we would necessarily look to make - but not underestimating the quality of the player."
