Sevilla Manager Explains Reason For Isco Release

Sevilla head coach Jorge Sampaoli has explained why the club agreed to mutually terminate midfielder Isco's contract.

The former Real Madrid man only signed for Sevilla in the summer, penning a two-year deal following nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, he managed to score just once and assist three times from 19 appearances in all competitions before coming to an agreement over a mutual contract termination, with his only goal coming in the Champions League group stages.

Speaking out on the matter, as quoted by Marca, Sampaoli stated: "Isco is a great boy and I wish him the best."

He continued, briefly explaining the decision to release him so soon after signing him: "He leaves a player who has great capacity, but he did not meet the club's expectations."

Rumours have immediately emerged following Isco's release linking him with a move to Arsenal, as has often been the case in the last few years. There has been no word from the 30-year-old himself following his release, though, as speculation continues to mount over his next possible move.

Isco was crowned the Golden Boy in 2012 and was a part of five Champions League winning squads at Real Madrid in his near decade at the club, but has since seen his stock fall from grace considerably.
