Davies Chirwa Appointed To Washington Filmworks Equity Committee

Davies Chirwa, the esteemed Media Executive and Founder of Channel A TV, has been appointed to the Washington Filmworks Equity Committee. In this role, he will offer guidance on diversity and inclusion strategies, advocate for underrepresented communities, review policies and programs, and contribute to funding allocation decisions.

The Equity Committee serves as an advisory body to the Board of Directors of Washington Filmworks, offering industry insights and perspectives from historically marginalized communities. Its primary goal is to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within both the organization and the broader statewide film industry. Additionally, the committee will hold Washington Filmworks accountable for integrating these principles into all facets of its operations.



Washington Filmworks, a legislatively commissioned non-profit organization, oversees the state's film production incentive program. Its mission is to bolster the competitiveness and sustainability of Washington's film industry. In 2022, the Washington State House of Representatives and Senate passed legislation that not only increased funding for the program but also included provisions aimed at expanding and fortifying the statewide film sector. Notably, this legislation emphasized support for projects highlighting the narratives of historically marginalized communities and allocated funding for workforce development initiatives within these communities.
