Queen Mother Of Culture And Tradition: International Reggae Star Miriam Receives Royal Honor In Ghana

ADUKROM, EASTERN REGION, GHANA

Internationally celebrated reggae artist, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and cultural ambassador Miriam Simone Menso has been installed and crowned Amammerehemaa of Adukrom in Ghana’s Akuapem Traditional Area, assuming the stool name Nana Abena Asentewaa Sheba Makeda.

The installation ceremony was held on June 5, 2026, followed by a grand coronation ceremony on June 7, 2026, at the historic Anunkode Royal Palace in Adukrom.

The ceremonies were officiated by the Chief of Adukrom, Nana Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio V, and attended by traditional rulers, queen mothers, elders, government representatives, religious leaders, business executives, cultural advocates, members of the African diaspora, and residents from across the Akuapem Traditional Area.

The colorful celebrations featured traditional drumming, cultural performances, royal processions, and customary rites that highlighted the rich heritage and traditions of the Akuapem people.

For many in attendance, the occasion represented far more than a traditional coronation. It symbolized the return of a daughter of the African diaspora who has spent years deepening her connection to the continent and its people.

Recognized as one of Suriname’s most respected and influential reggae artists, Miriam Simone has built an international reputation through music that promotes love, unity, cultural pride, social consciousness, and African identity. Throughout her career, she has used her platform to inspire positive change while strengthening cultural connections between Africa and its descendants around the world.

Speaking after her coronation, Nana Abena Asentewaa Sheba Makeda described the occasion as one of the most meaningful moments of her life.

“Today is a deeply emotional and humbling moment for me. To stand on the land of my ancestors and be welcomed by the people of Adukrom is a blessing beyond words. I accept this honor with gratitude and a profound sense of responsibility. I pledge to work alongside the chiefs, elders, and people of this community to preserve our culture, empower our youth, support women, and contribute to the development of Adukrom for generations to come.”

Her connection with Ghana was strengthened through music and cultural exchange.

A significant chapter in that journey began through her collaboration with Ghanaian reggae artist Major Steppa on the song “Loving You.” The collaboration introduced her music to a growing audience in Ghana and fostered meaningful relationships within the country’s reggae community.

Her popularity in Ghana expanded further through the efforts of respected reggae promoter DJ Gashie, road manager of Miriam Simone. Recognizing the impact of her music among Ghanaian reggae audiences, DJ Gashie compiled and released an official promotional mixtape titled “Miriam Simone – We Don’t Wanna Cry No More.”

The mixtape featured a collection of her music and helped introduce her artistry to reggae lovers throughout Ghana, contributing significantly to the growth of her fan base in the country.

Building on that momentum, DJ Gashie organized and hosted the “Miriam Simone In Ghana Concert” during her first visit to Ghana and later the “One Love Nima Concert” during her second visit. Both events were held in Nima, Accra, attracting reggae enthusiasts, cultural advocates, community leaders, and members of the Rastafarian community.

These experiences deepened Miriam Simone’s relationship with Ghana and inspired a more personal exploration of her African heritage and ancestral connections.

What began as a musical journey eventually evolved into a profound cultural and spiritual experience, ultimately leading her to Adukrom and the traditional leadership role she now holds.

Beyond music, Miriam Simone is widely recognized for her contributions to entrepreneurship, humanitarian service, community development, and cultural preservation.

She is the founder and owner of Healing & Care, a healthcare company dedicated to improving lives through compassionate care and wellness services. She is also the founder of Dredda Records, a record label committed to nurturing talent and promoting cultural expression through music.

In addition, she serves as co-founder of M&M Royalty, a clothing brand inspired by African heritage, identity, and royalty.

Together with her sister, she co-founded the Indigenous Motherhouse Foundation (IMF), an organization dedicated to supporting women, mothers, children, and vulnerable communities through empowerment, education, and development initiatives.

Miriam Simone is also a proud member of the Golden Fingers Sound System, through which she continues to promote messages of unity, social awareness, and African consciousness to audiences across Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and beyond.

As Amammerehemaa of Adukrom, Nana Abena Asentewaa Sheba Makeda is expected to champion initiatives focused on cultural preservation, youth empowerment, women’s development, community welfare, education, and stronger engagement between Ghana and the global African diaspora.

Addressing the gathering during the coronation ceremony, Nana Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio V described the occasion as a historic moment for Adukrom.

“Today marks an important chapter in the history of Adukrom. We have welcomed a daughter of African heritage who has embraced her roots and demonstrated a commitment to preserving culture and uplifting communities. We charge her to lead with humility, integrity, and dedication, and to use her position to promote development, preserve our traditions, and strengthen the bonds between Ghana and the African diaspora.”

The newly crowned Queen Mother has pledged to serve as a bridge between Africa and its descendants worldwide while advancing initiatives focused on culture, education, youth development, women’s empowerment, and community growth.

For many observers, Miriam Simone’s installation and coronation represent more than a traditional ceremony. They reflect a powerful story of heritage, purpose, cultural identity, and reconnection, a journey strengthened through music, service, and an enduring commitment to honoring African heritage while building meaningful bridges across the global diaspora.
