Djiku Cleared To Play Against PSG After Appeal Proves Successful

Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has been cleared to play in Strasbourg’s French Ligue 1 matchup against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, December 28 at 20:00 GMT.

Djiku was originally banned from the game for failing to comply with a sports betting ban in France by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (Professional Football League).

The central defender was one of 76 individuals implicated in the investigation and was subsequently punished with the one game suspension affecting his availability for the contest against PSG.

However, an appeal by Strasbourg arguing Djiku’s bet being down to a partnership he struck with a sports betting firm proved successful; the bet was placed reportedly in the 2020-2021 season.

As a result, the ruling on Djiku has been moved from a one game ban to a suspended sentence making the 28 year old available to play in tomorrow’s game.

Strasbourg ranks 19th in the 20 team league Ligue 1 standings and needs the services of Djiku who competed for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
