A Qatari consortium are preparing a bid to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family, sources have confirmed to 90min.
United announced in November 2022 they were exploring new investment opportunities and a full sale is on the cards.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a lifelong fan of the club and owner of French side OGC Nice, recently confirmed his interest in purchasing the Red Devils, but he is not the only party considering buying United.
Sources have confirmed to 90min that a Qatari consortium will launch a bid in the near future and that a bid to take over is being actively prepared.
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is known to be a huge United fan and he approves of a consortium moving to purchase the club.
He founded Qatar Sports Investments, who famously own Paris Saint-Germain. Although he has no direct contact with QSI anymore and any links to PSG would be tenuous, it is unlikely that he will be the figurehead of any bid to buy United.
The consortium is also separate from the Qataris who are keen to invest in Liverpool, and there is a possibility that both clubs could be owned by members of the Gulf state come the summer.
The group interested in buying United have already made contact with the Raine Group - who are conducting the sale on behalf of the Glazers - but have not yet started the period of due diligence.
The Glazer family are hoping to sell the club for around $10bn.
