Afrobeats Star Tems wins Grammy Award For ‘Best African Music Performance’

Nigerian Afrobeats star Tems has secured her second Grammy Award, winning in the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Recording Academy Awards.

Her hit song Love Me Jeje triumphed in a category dominated by Afrobeats heavyweights, with Chris Brown as the only non-Afrobeats nominee.

Tems faced strong competition from fellow Nigerian artistes, including Burna Boy, Asake, and Wizkid for their collaboration MMS, as well as Yemi Alade and Davido, who featured alongside Lojay on Chris Brown’s Sensational.

This latest achievement further cements Tems’ status as one of Africa’s most celebrated global music icons.

Already the owner of a shiny golden gramophone thanks to the 2022 smash hit ‘Wait for U‘ led by Drake and Future, Tems is no stranger to accepting GRAMMYs.

Yet, the 2025 ceremony came with quite the milestone for the singer-songwriter as it was the first time she delivered an acceptance speech for the coveted trophy alone.

Up for three awards on Sunday night, Tems was bested in Best R&B Song and Best Global Music Album categories.

Not only does it come as the first solo GRAMMY she’s won, but she’s also the first Nigerian artist in the award show’s history to triumph in the category.
