Ghanaian entrepreneur and alcohol-free advocate John Asogonnde has been appointed as a judge for the 2026 World Alcohol-Free Awards (WAFA), scheduled to take place in London this March.
The World Alcohol-Free Awards is widely regarded as the leading global competition dedicated exclusively to alcohol-free and low-alcohol (up to 0.5% ABV) beverages. The awards attract entries from producers across Europe, North America, Asia and emerging markets, with judging conducted by a panel of international industry experts.
John is the founder of Eden Bar, Ghana’s first dedicated alcohol-free nightlife experience, and a key figure in West Africa’s growing mindful drinking movement. He is also a previous recipient of the WAFA Uplift Award, which recognises individuals advancing the alcohol-free category.
His appointment to the judging panel places a Ghanaian voice within an international conversation shaping standards of quality, innovation and taste in the fast-expanding alcohol-free sector.
Speaking ahead of the March judging, John noted the importance of high-quality alternatives for emerging markets.
“The African market is increasingly demanding sophisticated alcohol-free options,” he said. “Global recognition platforms like WAFA play an important role in setting benchmarks for excellence in this space.”
The 2026 awards will be held in London, bringing together producers, buyers, educators and industry professionals from around the world.
