Argentina Fan 'Choked To Death' By Flag In Freak Accident During World Cup Celebrations

An Argentinian fan was “choked to death” in a freak accident whilst celebrating his country’s 2022 World Cup win after the flag he was draped in got caught in the wheel of his motorbike.

Sebastian Oscar Maciel became caught up in jubilant scenes throughout Buenos Aires as hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets to celebrate the tense win over France in Qatar.

The 22-year-old was sadly killed instantly by his Argentina flag after it reportedly cut off his supply of oxygen and he crashed to the ground.

A local police statement said: “The man appears to have died when an Argentinian flag he was wearing tied round his neck like a cape got caught in the one of the motorbike's wheels and choked him to death.

“Various witnesses saw him fall to the ground and realised he had the flag around his neck. The investigation is ongoing but the initial hypothesis is that he died from asphyxiation.”

Tragic Sebastian, who was on a Honda XR 150cc motorbike at the time, died instantly in the city of Bahia Blanca in the province of Buenos Aires, around 400 miles south of the Argentinian capital.

He had been partying alongside millions of Argentinians throughout the world after their thrilling penalty shootout World Cup final victory on Sunday (December 18).
